Gummidipundi

Gummidipoondi is a booming industrial town of over 20,000, in Thiruvallur district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is located near the Frontier Mediville Medical SEZ in Elavur. The population has a literacy rate of over 70%, significantly higher than the national average.

Gummdipoondi lies on the bustling National Highway 5 from Chennai to Calcutta as part of the national Golden Quadrangle project.

It is the site of one of the largest SIPCOT SEZs. Gummidipoondi prides itself on housing two important factories, Dupont Fibers and Hitech Carbon (an Aditya Birla Group company), also known as Birla Carbon. Subsequently, DuPont Fibres has been taken over by SRF Limited. SRF stands for Shriram Fibres Limited and is the 8th largest producer of Nylon Tyre cord fabric in the world. A US $1 billion dollar Michelin Tyre Factory is currently being built on the SIPCOT estate. Land in this region is in high demand with significant residential and commercial development.

A new state of the art rail terminus and link is set to connect Gummidipundi and Tiruvallur.
